Color Correcting An Indie Short Called "Cyn."
By Alex Ferrari
Color
correcting is a forgotten art in the indie world
because filmmakers believe it's to expensive
or beyond their abilities. Hogwash...that's right
I said hogwash. There are a ton of great color
correction tools available on the market that
can that your indie project to the next level. With
my VFX/Post Production company Numb Robot (www.numbrobot.com)
I embarked on a odyssey to color correct
my latest project (www.alittlecyn.com) "Cyn." (I
know, I am a media whore).
Below are some before and afters. I was going for a graphic novel vibe.
I added grain to give it a bit of grit and pushed the images the the brink. I
used Red Giant's Magic Bullet Editors and their new product Colorista. As well
as a little Natruss. Magic Bullet Editor is awesome because they have a ton of
pre-built looks that you can just drop onto your image.
You don't have to know a thing about color correction with this
package, but make no mistake if you have some knowledge of color
correction/grading, your results will be much more professional.
Just a little something to make your film stand apart from the
rest of the youtube.com monstrosities out there.
Now with a little education, tweaking and a bit of trial and
error you can come up with an amazing pro look. BTW, I'll
be posting new webdocs on the short film "Cyn's" main site in the
coming weeks cover visual effects, color correction, titles sequences,
and a ton more so check back at www.alittlecyn.com
Also, for those interested in FREE WEB DOCS go over to my first
short film BROKEN's webdoc page for some cool docs on pre/post
production: www.whatisbroken.com/webdocs.html
Good luck and keep your eye on the prize!
