06/28/2007 - Seeking Producer for Documentary

Experienced producer needed immediately to see 1-hour documentary through post-production, fundraising, and distribution. Production is complete and work samples can be shown upon request. Fiscal sponsorship is in place  (www.der.org) and there has been lots of interest expressed from broadcasters. I am looking for a collaborator and there is no pay up front, but we will fundraise and there is definite potential for deferred payment (depending partly on your skill as a fundraiser). I hope to find someone asap for important grant deadline in mid July.

The film explores the creative process and the complex emotional ties people have with the places they are from through the interwoven stories of three young, emerging songwriters in Montevideo, Uruguay. It was filmed over the course of 16 months in Uruguay, supported by two grants, and features lots of great, original music (latin pop incorporating elements of regional folk music). The project had a producer in Uruguay during shooting, and needs one in New York now.

The director/ cameraperson has been making documentaries for three years, and is also a musician and PhD candidate in cultural anthropology. The producer needs to be someone with experience dealing with broadcasters (negotiating rights and budgeting) as well as private fundraising strategies, and someone with experience and contacts in the documentary film world.

You should be passionate about independent music as well, and hopefully you are interested in Latin American music and culture. Spanish fluency is a MAJOR plus but not required. The commitment will be part-time and flexible, but I'm really looking for someone to help see this original and promising project through to completion. Please contact me today!
